Tariffs change by year and distribution system operator. Solar electricity consumed on site can reduce grid purchases. Compare this benefit with the full installation cost and cautious price scenarios.
The state helps with funding
The Confederation (via Pronovo) supports photovoltaics with a payment calculated for each application, to be confirmed with the official tariff calculator. Depending on the canton, municipality or type of project, targeted subsidies may be added — but they must be verified before being included in the budget.

The base is federal with Pronovo. Depending on your address and your project, targeted cantonal or municipal aid may be added after verification.
PV alone: no general cantonal aid
For a standard residential photovoltaic installation, the confirmed help is Pronovo. The Vaudois Buildings Program can only be added if the project includes, for example, roof insulation or heritage cases.

SIG adds a bonus for new self-consumption PV installations of 2 to less than 30 kWp, certified by Pronovo after January 1, 2026. A separate battery bonus exists under conditions.

The Valais Energy Service refers photovoltaic requests to Pronovo. Other cantonal aid mainly concerns separate energy measures.

Do the panels work on overcast days?
Yes. Panels also use diffuse light, with reduced output under cloud cover. Have your roof, shading and monthly output simulated. Profitability also depends on the quote, tariffs and your consumption.
Do you have to be a homeowner to install panels?
A tenant must obtain the owner's written consent before an installation that modifies the building. For condominium ownership, check the rules and required decisions. In every case, confirm the municipal procedure, roof constraints and permissions before ordering.
How much does a typical installation cost?
First count the gross quote price, then recalculate the net cost with the official Pronovo tariff calculator. Targeted municipal or cantonal aid should only be added if your project is confirmed eligible by an official source.
What happens at night or in bad weather?
The grid supplies electricity when your generation does not cover consumption. A battery can shift surplus into the evening. To power appliances during a grid outage, a compatible backup function must be designed, installed and tested.
Will my panels still work 20 years from now?
An installation can operate for several decades, with maintenance and possible component replacement. Warranty duration and conditions vary by model. Check guaranteed residual output, exclusions and service arrangements before signing.
Does solar increase the value of my home?
A well-documented installation can improve a home's appeal and energy performance. Its effect on price depends on the property, installation condition and local market; do not add a fixed increase in value to the calculation.
