Problem Analysis
The transition to electric mobility generates enormous electrical needs. A household driving 15 000 km per year will add around 2 500 kWh to its balance sheet. The common mistake is to install a 'basic' terminal and charge the car in the evening when returning from work, using only the public network, at the high nightly rate.
The real profitability model is total coupling: using the mid-day solar surplus to charge the car with 100% free energy. For this, the terminal must not be a simple wire connected to the electrical panel, it must communicate digitally and in real time with the solar inverter.
Our Recommendation
Buy a surplus control terminal (Intelligent Terminal / Smart-Wallbox).
Favor in the quote or the integration of terminals of the same brand as the inverter (eg: Fronius Wattpilot, SolarEdge EV Charger) or agnostic terminals recognized for their excellent communication (such as myenergi zappi or go-eCharger).
These terminals use the 'Charge to surplus only' function. If a cloud passes, the car's charging slows down or stops, so you never have to pay for electricity. Finally, watch for the arrival of V2H (Vehicle to Home): bidirectional terminals which will soon allow the car battery (often > 60 kWh) in Switzerland to directly power the entire house in the evening, making wall batteries obsolete.
Sources & Method
Analysis based on ElCom 2024–2026 data, OFEN (Federal Office of Energy), Pronovo SA, EPFL and HEG Geneva studies. The financial projections use the following assumptions unless otherwise stated: local purchase price, GRD injection price, production 1 100 kWh/kWp/year, self-consumption rate 35–40%. Actual results vary depending on canton, roof orientation and consumption profile. The site may also present its own services or calls for contact related to these subjects.
