A solar project should not block an obvious renovation
Removing an installation a few years later to redo the roof is expensive, complicates warranties and increases the number of stakeholders.
The 4-step method
Assess the actual state of coverage
The age of the roof is not enough. You need to look at the roofing, the under-roof, the infiltrations and the maintenance history.
Compare the life horizon of the roof with that of solar
If the roof is likely to be redone in the near future, it must be treated before or at the same time as the panels.
Measure the cost of a separate construction site later
Removal, storage, refitting, adaptation of fixings and loss of production often make two sites more expensive than one.
Decide between solar alone or roof + solar
If the roof is healthy and durable, you can move forward directly. If it is at the end of the cycle, a coordinated project is often more rational.
