1. Design the complete roof covering
Identify active elements, finishing pieces, edges, ridge, windows and chimneys. Request dimensions, colours and a sample. Specify underlay, ventilation and drainage. Calling an element a tile does not establish compatibility with every roof or suitability for walking on it.
2. Compare generation from the usable roof
Calculate installed capacity and monthly generation using orientations and shading. Distinguish total covered area from active area. Compare options for the same building and consumption rather than cell efficiency alone. Request the electrical plan and ways to diagnose an underperforming element.
3. Price the work and assign responsibilities
Compare removal, new roofing, junctions, structure, scaffolding, electrical work and commissioning. Identify roof work needed even without solar. Verify grants for the actual project and avoid counting roofing savings twice. Specify building-envelope and equipment warranties and responsibility for water ingress.
4. Plan approval and long-term service
Confirm the procedure with the competent authority, especially for a protected building. Prepare requested views and samples. Before ordering, check spare parts, access, element removal and service cost. Keep plans and model references; a long warranty does not establish coverage of all roofing or labour costs.
